James Singleton stick in the rotation?

If we've learned anything in the first couple months of the Rick Carlisle era, it's that his rotation can change as quickly as the weather in Dallas.
Gerald Green did some things offensively early in the season that made us gush. Antoine Wright had a couple of consecutive impressive performances before tweaking his hamstring. Both those guys are glued to the bench right now.
So we probably shouldn't get used to seeing James Singleton getting significant minutes, but he's certainly doing his part to stick in the rotation. He got his first non-garbage time minutes all month in Washington and shined (8 points, 13 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals in 28:40). He was solid in 15 minutes last night, with five points and four rebounds.
The 6-8, 230-pound Singleton is a athletic energy guy whose niche is playing nasty defense and hitting the boards. Those attributes are unique on the Mavs' roster. For now at least, there's a place in the rotation for that type of guy.

Defense will get you everywhere with Carlisle. Singleton is a very good defender so I would expect him to stick in the rotation.

I like Singleton enough to be okay if we traded Bass for an unpgrade elsewhere, but when Dirk gets hit with 4 fouls in the 3rd quarter, Bass should be the guy taking the majority of the minutes IMO. Bass, not Singleton, is the reason why I want to see Dirk play better defense and not worry about the foul situation. Singleton is better for spot minutes and heat checks (or whatever you call them for rebounding and playing inside) whereas I feel comfortable with Bass for extended minutes. It's when Bass gets just a few minutes that he tends to try too hard and develops tunnel vision.

^ To me, Diop should be the one most worried about Singleton. I know it's usually good to have shotblockers in the game defensively, but a Bass-Singleton frontcourt gives us a ton of flexibility on both ends of the court. Both do have some ability to contest shots inside (not on Diop's level, of course), both have range offensively, and neither is a slouch rebounder.

That does not surprise me coming from you.
Singleton is the better streak-jumpshooter. And he gets the edge defensively. But bass is more concistant and gets the edge inside.

not here, I agree Singleton>Bass I really don't care if I get flame=broiled like a whopper for this either. Singleton just plain gives the team some energy and toughness and produces when he is given playing time. He is not light years better than Bass but just seems to have better intangibles than Bass.

Singleton played well against Blatche and Jamison. And that's it. The 2 games since Bass >> Singleton. Not to mention more clutch.

Bass 19 pts (8/12), 5 reb in 24:34
Bass > Singleton

Per 40 on players that play 11.5 MPG and only in 15 games is a completely useless tool.
See Nick Fazekas as a Maverick, who BTW was good enough to play for the Clippers last year when Singleton could not even get a job in the NBA.
