Nice game thread bigboy, I like Fire Ranger Redbird.

This just in: Kip Wells is killing us. Send him to the Lee Ranger district to clean out vault toilets or something. Give his spot in the rotation to Mulder and hope for the best.

Maybe it's time to give Reyes' spot to someone else for the rest of this division race too. I just wish we had some other options besides Maroth or maybe Wellemeyer. Starting pitching, it's beginning to bite us in the ass just like we all feared it would.

If Mulder can come back relatively strong on Wed, that would be huge. Wells is brutal, Reyes is brutal. But I'm still more comfortable with Reyes out there then Wells. And I have no problem with Wellemeyer getting back into the rotation...

Wainwright
Mulder
Piniero
Looper
Wellemeyer I guess works for me at this point.

I think for the time being we're going with a 6 man rotation, not 100% sure on that though.

The TBA pitchers for the Pirates are Tony Armas Jr. and Bryan Bullington, two very winnable games. Bullington was the 1st overall pick in 2002 for the Pirates but has been a bust, and missed all of last year.

Also, nice to see Branyan going deep.

Well look at what we have here...

1 game back of the Central division lead. And Mr. Mark Mulder makes his return to the mound tomorrow, how ironic.

That would be something for him to get through 5 or 6 and get a Win and get the Central division lead back for the first time in well, forever.

That is a plausible Mulder scenario for sure. More plausible than believing Joel Pineiro would come over from the Boston bullpen and lead us back to within one game out of first in the Division. Pineiro! Four wins already for the Birds! Who would have thunk it?

Very true, the one thing I like about Pineiro is he works quick and attacks the zone. And he doesn't pussy foot around the strike zone and walk guys. His his stuff isn't great, but it's certainly not bad. While Reyes and Wells like to get behind 2-0 in just about every count just to make Dave Duncan and TLR have heart attacks.

I can't wait until tonight.

I'm cautiously optimistic that Mulder can improve our chances. He hasn't pitched a big-league game in a long-ass time. But then he couldn't possibly be any worse than Kip Wells, who has lost us 11 freaking games this season in which he gave up five runs or more. Sounds like maybe LaDuncan are finally coming to their senses and getting ready to drop Kipster from the rotation.

link

The real question is do the Cardinals have anyone good enough to justify dropping Reyes from the rotation. I'm not sure we do.

That's the key sentence right there. I didn't mind Brad Thompson while he was up. He kept us in games more often then not.

Wainwright
Looper
Mulder
Pineiro
Wellemeyer or Thompson.

As a starter, Wellemeyer's ERA was around 4. He usually could get through 5 or 6.

Regarding Mulder, I am also cautiously optimistic. But I think he'll do fine, I would be more concerened if he had gotten shelled in the minors, which he did the exact opposite, he pitched very well.

...and we get a very Kipsterish performance from Mulder in his debut. :sigh: I guess we were right not to get our hopes up too much.

And LaRussa has decided to give away today's game by giving the start to Maroth. You know we are completely out of real options when Maroth is getting another start.

In case you couldn't tell, I'm feeling a tad pessimistic this morning.

So this is how my night went...

Upset at the rain delay because it makes Mulder have to warm up all over again. Plus I couldn't wait any longer to see him pitch in over a year.

1st inning, he's throwing 90-92 and looked great. I was pumped, and anticiapted things would continue..

2nd and 4th inning :banghead: ..

Watched a few more innings and ended up just going to bed pretty depressed.

I'm not sure what to think, the bottom line, he couldn't locate anything. And according to Jack Wilson, his stuff was good other then his 2 seamer. In which Wilson said it didn't have it's normal sink. But his velocity was good.

From now on Maroth only gets the start on days when the Cardinals score 16 runs or more. I'm making it a rule.

Also, Ankiel for President!

Can you play anymore this up and down, jesus. These starting pitchers get more funny every time out, luckily we have Ankiel, and at least one consistent pitcher in Wainwright. We won by 12 today and still got outscored in the series by 1, crazy, and against the Pirates come on. I'm actually just happy we didn't lose the series and are still only 1 game back.
