Eckstein's Contract Talk

There were some talks but nothing substantial while the club was in Florida, and while he senses mutual interest, general Walt Jocketty believes the talks could be tabled until the end of the season.

But Eckstein is clutch, and A-Rod is a choker!!!
Just BSing. If forced to choose between them, I think I just might take Rodriguez.
I like Eckstein, think he is a pretty good bargain for what we are paying him, and therefore think he makes a lot of sense for the Cardinals alongside the mega-contracts of Pujols and Rolen (we aren't the Yankees; we aren't even the Cubs, Dodgers, or Mets, and we can't afford to pay all of our starters eight-figure salaries per year).
If we can bring him back for similar money to what he is getting now, then I'd probably do it, pending something better. But I guess I wonder how many more years Eckstein can be effective.

Eh, I think thats the problem, I'm thinking Eckstein is up for a pretty big raise. People tend to overrate him because he has the intangibles, hustle, and stuff like that, when he doesn't even average a .700 OPS, steal bases, or is that great of a defensive player. Plus I would just love to see A-Rod here, used to be one of my favorite players, and would love to see how he plays where the fans would actually enjoy him.

If Eckstein wants a big raise, I'd be willing to bet that Jocketty lets him walk. That seems to be SOP for our front office. Sentimentality does not reign supreme.
I agree it would be fun to put A-Rod in the lineup between El Hombre and Rolen. Is there any way in hell that ever happens though? And if it did, can he still play a halfway decent shortstop, or would we stick him in left field or something?

Oh man, don't get me dreaming about A-Rod in a Cards uni this early in the season. At this point, I just want a win
