Looper off DL, Reyes sent down

Post#1 » by bigboy1234 » Mon Jul 2, 2007 11:18 pm

ST. LOUIS -- Anthony Reyes, who has lost 12 straight regular-season decisions, was optioned to the minors by the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday to make room for Braden Looper in the rotation.

Reyes' losing streak matched Bill Kissinger's franchise record set from 1896-97. The right-hander, who dominated the Detroit Tigers in winning the World Series opener last fall, has a 6.40 ERA.

The Cardinals have totaled 29 runs in his 12 starts this year, and only 14 while he was on the mound. Reyes is 0-10 and hasn't won a regular-season game since last Sept. 6.

I'm not even sure what to think about this any more. Reyes has talent, but just hasn't been able to get it together. However, I'm not sure we have five better options for the starting rotation.

It's been a very frustrating season where Reyes is concerned.

Super Looper off to a decent restart for the Birds. Was in Evansville yesterday where cable has the good sense to carry the Cardinals, so I saw much of the game.

Hooray for Evansville! When I was in school in Bloomington I never got any TV games, but there was a radio station in Bedford that carried the Cardinals. It was a small station with a signal that barrrrreeeelly stretched the 20 miles north to Bloomington, but any port in a storm. I wonder if Bedford is still a Cardinals town?
