Fortunately, I have the utmost confidence in Kip Wells. He was virtually unhittable last time out! Keep 'er going, Kipster!

I kinda feel bad, because as we speak, bottom of the 9th I'm rooting against the Cardinals. I'm hoping we don't win any games the rest of the season. That way, #1 pick, and hopefully making a few trades at the deadline. I wonder if this makes me a bad fan.

And Pujols keeps me happy as a bad fan.

Go be a bad fan for your NBA team, a #1 pick is a lot more meaningful in that draft.

(OK, I will admit that I'm hoping for an Isringhausen trade next week myself.)

Well last night was a pretty good game at least, except for Albert having some awful ABs. Kip was actually pretty good again. I wonder how long he can keep that up?

Why do opposing managers continue to pitch to Skip Schumaker?!? There is no stopping that man.

And yeah your right about the draft, the Cards could have had the 2nd or 3rd best prospect in the draft a month ago, but were too cheap to spend the money.

The rivalry doesn't have much zest this year. I guess the Brewers have filled in for now, but it's not the same.

You know things are not going well when a Cub fan comes trolling on your board. Oh well, in life we must learn to deal with the good and the bad. For sure, this year ain't so good, but for me last year was worth a lot of bad ones.

Hey, it's all good--Cubs fans are welcome here. Although IMO the rivalry hasn't had all that much zest for the last several years. The rivalry is usually at its best when either both teams are competitive, or neither has anything left to play for except beating each other.

And on to today's game. With this year's usual rallying cry: Avoid The Sweep!!!

I'm torn today, on one hand I don't want to get swept by the Cubs. Then on the other hand, I want Jocketty to realize how bad this team is (meaning we keep losing) and start making some trades.

Yeah, the rivalry hasn't been good since 04. It was great that year, and the year before. But we were awful from 05-06, and now you guys are pretty bad. Oh well.

It actually seems like the Astros have been more of our rival the past few years, moreso than the Cubs.

Yeah, we had a pretty good thing going with the Astros there for awhile. Even though we were 10 games better than them in both 2004 and 2005, the silly-ass Wild Card format negated all that each October, and those postseason games made for a good rivalry.

Even last year when both teams were scuffling, it picked up between us in September. This year, though, Astros-Cardinals is completely irrelevant.

The only nontraditional rivalry we've had that I can remember that was as intense as with the Astros was the one we had with the Mets in the 1980s. With the main difference for me being that while I liked (mostly) and respected the Astros, I totally despised those Mets teams. Biggest collection of jerks ever to appear on a single MLB roster. Hell, there was even a book about the 1986 team called "The Bad Guys Win!" and it was not written by a Cardinals fan. You could go up and down their lineup and there was almost nothing there but guys I hated. Strawberry...Dykstra...Backman...Hernandez...Gary Carter...Ray Knight...annoying, despicable bastards all. It was unbelievable. Their manager was an a-hole too. Fortunately, with the exception of a single season, their collective character flaws prevented them from ever winning much of anything despite all that baseball talent.

Well, enough of that, the Cubs are still our main rivals and always will be. And certainly the measure of a really horrible season is finishing behind those cupcakes in the standings.

That's the Jason Marquis that I remember.

Crap, now we're going to end up trading Rasmus, Anderson, and Garcia for Woody Williams.
