Tuesday, 6:05 p.m.: Adam Wainwright [9-8, 4.45] vs. Paul Maholm [7-12, 4.57]

Wednesday, 6:05 p.m.: Braden Looper [8-8, 4.85] vs. Tony Armas [0-3, 6.93]

Thursday, 11:35 a.m.: Anthony Reyes [1-10, 6.11] vs. Shane Youman [2-3, 4.66]

I hope we can hang in there until Joel Piniero can join the club and lead us to another world championship. :)

Seriously, we need to make up some ground this week in the standings. We play bottom-feeders Pittsburgh and Washington; the Cubs and Brewers take turns playing the Mets and Phillies.

I'm hoping to be within four games of first place by the end of the week.

A winner! The cubs are currently beating the Phils though but the Brewers are losing to the Mets. Oh, and Matty Mo is back in the NL Central.

Good win, tonight there's another good matchup for us while we face a right hander pitcher who wasn't great in his starts. We've to strike early.
The Brewers have a difficult one tonight, facing Oliver Perez while the Cubbies will face Moyer with Hill on the mound.

I can't believe the Pirates got Matt Morris; not sure why they want to give up what sounds like a pretty good outfield prospect for him, or why they want to pay him for the rest of this season and $9 million next. Is Morris going to pitch against us in this series? For the last month-plus he has been getting hit like a pinata.

If we are going to take flyers on over-the-hill veteran pitchers, then I'd much rather do it with a guy like Piniero who doesn't cost us much of anything.

Let's make it five in a row tonight! And come on Mets and Phillies, a little help please.

Hey, we came within 15 runs of a five-game win streak.

Brewers lost too, so we're still six games out.

Tonight is a must-win game. It doesn't matter how, but we have to win.

Actually, it's today's game Sberl. First pitch is in about ten minutes.

Oh yes, but here in Italy at the moment the time is 6.35 p.m....a little confusion for me!
By the way, let's go Cards!

Unbelievable, this game drove me crazy. We missed a huge chance to bounce back in the division, everyone made errors: we missed plays, bad managing, bad swings....we had the opportunity and we didn't catch it. I'm very very angry.

Well, once again we just weren't very good. At least our pitching didn't completely cave in this time; our lineup was given an opportunity to win the game, but it didn't deliver.

Not that Reyes didn't torture me again. What does he have against stranding runners on base? He either breezes through the inning, or gives up multiple runs. He makes a mockery of stats like WHIP by giving up all of his hits/walks to consecutive batters. I still am mildly enthusiastic about his talent level, but his slow development is requiring a LOT of patience.

Time is running out fast on this season. We have to start playing a lot better baseball a lot more consistently.

See why couldn't this series come before the deadline. Either way both the Cubs and Brewers lost today so at least they didn't gain anymore on us.

When we ASSUME the Cardinals will stay in the race it makes an ASS out of U and ME.

(One of many good lines from Bad News Bears, which deserves consideration for Best Sports Movie Ever.)
