2007 Draft Watch

Nice mention of Hillsborough High and there tradition of high draft picks in the MLB Draft.

Florida: Hillsborough High School

First-year Hillsborough coach Kenny White knows he couldn't have asked for a better situation. There may not be a school with a stronger history in terms of pro players than the Tampa institution. Among the seven first-round picks from the school are Dwight Gooden, Carl Everett and Gary Sheffield. Jason Romano also is an alum, along with former big leaguers Floyd Youmans and Mike Heath. It would be perfect motivation for White's players, something to throw out at them if they lose focus. That isn't necessary, according to White. Anyone who puts on the school's uniform is well aware of the history.

Use this thread for ideas, players, etc concerning this summer's draft.

Probably the #1 prospect is pitcher David Price from Vanderbilt. Great tools, and he's been a winner at Vandy.

Some scouts are worried however that Price has been overused in college.

He often times has had pitch counts from the 130's - 150's.

Would this bother you if you were GM?

OK, enough stalling. Here are the projections:

1. Tampa Bay Devil Rays: David Price, LHP, Vanderbilt University
Still the same. There will be some talk about Matt Wieters still being a possibility, but there's no reason to change things now. Price threw a complete-game gem in the SEC tournament with some key Rays staffers on hand.
Last week's projection: Price

He is impressive.

He might be major league ready too.

David Price will be in the rotation by early 2008. He will win a Cy Young by 2009.

Today: 9 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB, 17 K.

He faced 34 batters and struck out half of them.

The guy is dominant for sure.

He has to be the #1 pick. I agree about him being in the rotation very soon.

Imagine, the Rays with an abundance of starters? Who'd a thunk it?
