Winter Meetings

Post#1 » by SubyWill » Thu Dec 6, 2012 5:00 am

Rays signed a good first baseman in Loney, made a good trade for a everyday SS in Escobar. It's been a pretty good week for the Rays.

Zobrist can finally move to his best position which is 2nd base, and Loney and Escobar will help improve the infield defense quite a bit.

Are the Rays done? Nope. Looks like Shields will be traded, according to all the rumors he will be going to the Royals for baseball's top prospect WIl Myers, that would be amazing! Also included would be another good pitching prospect from the Royals.

I'm excited! Let's go Friedman!

Well getting Escobar seems like a good move. Im not familiar with Loney but he seems to have potential at a low cost.

I am really hoping that we add lots of offense. Its been the Rays achilles heel for a couple of years now, and the Jays got a lot better this winter.

Now I am assuming that Jennings is going to be our CF now that Upton is gone. We still have Joyce, so we may need another outfielder. We need some hitters, run producers badly.

I'm loving the moves we're making so far. We should be a lot better than last year assuming we don't make a bad trade for James Shields. If we can get some great pieces for him we should be way better.

The Rays are apparently close to a deal with Roberto Hernandez, formerly Fausto Carmona:

The Rays are having a great offseason IMO.

He has potential to turn things around with the Rays awesome coaching staff. Good low risk high reward signing.

I like that the Rays got a young power hitter in the Shields trade, plus more talented young pitching. He will hopefully give Longo much needed protection. We gotta score runs, this is by far our biggest weakness.

Meanwhile, the Jays are serious about contending this year.

Myers looks to be the real deal, and if so, the rays will have found a long term corner OF.

I hated seeing shields go, but you gotta pay to play.

The other pick ups have huge upsides as well.

The rotation will miss shields, but there is still great depth.

Haha, Shelley Duncan....the instigator of the Gomes spring training brawl a few years back against the Yankees

Not surprised about Scott.

But I wouldn't have been surprised had they let him go either.

Scott always seems to have health issues and is either streaky good or streaky bad....with little middle ground... but the streaky bad usually outweighs the streaky good.
