Because it makes him a better player.
For those not understanding what the hell I'm saying:
Tonight, vs the Tigers, Jackson has the ball for game 1. To hitter number 1, he's his usual wild self, and gives up a walk. He then gives up three fly ball outs out end the inning scoreless, but wasn't particularly convincing about it.
To start the second, he looks a bit sharper, but Carlos Guillen hits him hard for a single to right. Casey then gets lucky with a broken bat single, and Mike Rabelo hits him to left. Bases loaded, no one out.
He gets to a 1-1 count on Omar Infante, who then pops up down the left field side. Akinori Iwamura has the play made, but some old twat in the stands reaches out onto the field and catches it. The ump doesn't call fan interference because he's an idiot. So it's merely a strike.
On the next pitch, Infante hits a lucky bloop to left. Carl Crawford's throw is way, way, way too hard, and goes straight over Riggans's head.
For no reason at all, Jackson - who is backing the throw - completely misplays the throw and it hits him square in the face. He goes down, and the second run scores. Now it's second and third with no one out.
This apparently annoyed Jackson because he then struck out the next three hitters, really, really, really convincgly. He threw up to 99 miles an hour, located both his fastball and his slider, and the slider broke awesomely.
By Jove, I think we've figured it out. You have to annoy the guy to make him good.
Maybe we should get the heckler onto it.
I'm going to smack Edwin Jackson in the face
