ESPN reporting that Griffey will waive no trade clause

Post#1 » by craig01 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 1:30 am

ESPN is reporting that Griffey will waive no trade clause.

Deal may happen by Wednesday.

Rays would give up Gross, Wade Townsend, and another minor leaguer.

Rays would get Griffey and Weathers.

It depends on how "aged" Griffey is.

Right now, his production isn't better than the current combination of DH/RF players.

What Griffey could do though is offer some clout and maybe production to the middle of the lineup.

The question though is which Griffey would come? The old, non-motivated one, or a still productive but often injured one?

The cost, other than dollars isn't that significant.......but team chemistry and health could be.

I'd do it if he still has game left...............

The thing is, can you rely on Griffey? He always, always has some sort of injury. But I guess if the Rays use him at DH that would reduce the chance of injury and he can start putting up big #'s.

That's the gamble........his health

As far as who would go, Gabe Gross is just a journeyman OF, and Wade Townsend is a medium rated pitching prospect.

There is another prospect involved, but I don't know who it is yet, or even if any of this has been substantiated.

I love Griff, always have but his bat is sloooooooooooo. We already have the veteran presence (Percy and Cliffy), so I don't see the value added here. I mean if its Gross for Griffey sure. But i'd pass.

The chemistry is so good right now with everyone chipping in, Griffey might disrupt that significantly with his playing time.
