Trade deadline passes, Rays quiet

Clearly, Reyes has lost even more velocity than I thought possible.

His fastball now extends all the way up to 84 mph. Geez, how long can the Rays keep sending him out there?

His fastball is 84 mph, his changeup is 78-80 mph. Recipe for success?

So, Reyes stays, while Glover gets the dreaded DFA today.

At least Glover can throw over 90 mph.

The trade deadline passed, and the rays were not able to add the RH bat.

This is OK.

One bat would not make much of a difference if everyone else can not hit with risp.

If the bats come alive though, the RH bat won't be needed.

Cons:

No Jason Bay.

Pros:

No OF shuffle (Crawford or Bay in RF, neither one can play well there)
Everyone is still in tact
Depth in the minors is still untouched
The Rays are still in first place by 3 games, mired in a horrible RISP slump
The Yankees did not address their weakest need for a stretch run (starting pitching)
The Yankees weakened their bullpen (trading Farnsworth)
The Red Sox lost one of their greatest hitters ever in a move they were forced to make (Ramirez)
The Red Sox did not address their bullpen

The Rays are expected to add Rocco Baldelli within days (RH bat)

This is getting very interesting.
