Fukumori, Texas Rangers agree to 2-year deal
Japanese reliever's contract worth $3 million with option

The Rangers have agreed to a two-year deal with Japanese right-handed reliever Kazuo Fukumori, general manager Jon Daniels confirmed Thursday.
Though some contract language remained unfinished Thursday evening, the team plans a 2 p.m. news conference today to announce the signing. The deal is for $3 million and includes a club option for 2010.
Fukumori, 31, does have some closing experience in Japan, but is expected to pitch in the seventh or eighth inning for the Rangers. He is coming off a poor 2007 season in which he was 4-2 with a 4.75 ERA and 17 saves for Tohoku Rakuten. His season was cut short by surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow.
Daniels has said he'd like to add more than one reliever to the bullpen for 2008 and that was before the club decided not to tender right-hander Akinori Otsuka a contract over concerns about his recovery from elbow problems.
