Arizona Lands Dan Haren
14th December, 2007 - 8:14 pm
ESPN - The Oakland A's sent All-Star Dan Haren and prospect Connor Robertson to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday for pitchers Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith, infielder Chris Carter and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez.

Haren will join a talented pitching corps that already includes Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb and starters Doug Davis and Livan Hernandez that helped carry the D-backs to the 2007 National League Championship Series. Arizona also hopes to get Randy Johnson back from injury next year.

"We are thrilled to acquire Danny Haren. His addition will bolster an already-strong starting staff and will help stabilize our roster over the next several years," Diamondbacks Senior VP/GM Josh Byrnes said.

"Our success in scouting and player development allowed us to make a rare trade like this. We certainly traded many quality players, but we have the youth and depth to justify such a trade." [READ]

I think beane just outsmarted himself, and AZ is the NL Favorite based on Doogie Davis

outsmarted himself? it was a great move, he knows the A's arent winning and he sold high on Haren who was coming off a great season, and he got a lot of the Dbacks top prospects.

this is what beanes all about b/c he knew from the time he got haren if he turned into a stud he couldnt afford him he'd turn him around and flip him for prospects

I am just opposed to trading off proven aces. He has done it in the past and drawn my criticism. The moves back then did not pay off, and this one will not either. He traded proven for unproven.

the last time he traded mulder he got dan haren, id say that turned out to be something special, he also got in the same deal daric barton who'll be a great hitter for avg. for years like a mark grace type.

he knows that most likely from the time he gets these players he's not going to keep them and wants to sell them at there highest value.

he realizes he's not winning in the next couple years unfortunately for most people that follow the rangers they cant deal w/the fact that we're doing the same thing even though it will benefit us in the long run

its like billy beane says, "You're either rebuilding for something special, or you're on the verge of something special. To be in between is foolish."
