Trade Deadline trades

The Texas Rangers really came out of the deadline as winners. They needed to solidify their bullben and that is exactly what they did. Adams and Uehara are proven relief pitchers that help this team. It is a little hard to see Davis and Hunter leave, but you gotta lose some players to get some. The Texas Rangers are legit World Series contenders. Thoughts?

Rangers filled their weaknesses and did not mortgage their very deep minor leagues. Big win for Daniels. Also, order made the trades work. Getting Uehara first put pressure on Padres. Davis needed a new team and Hunter did not have a role this year. The minor leaguers were good players, but not the best players in the system.
WIN WIN

Giving up a AAAA first basman a 5th starter/long reliever your 4th best pitching prospect and one not ranked in the top 10 for 2 quality bullpen pitchers which is your weakness is triple genius by the Rangers FO.

This was a fine use of assets. I am sure that we will see in 4 years an article about how Padres fleeced us with their 1 and 1a pitchers coming from texas for an aging set up guy. I lived in ATL during Braves WS runs, and every year there would be a Doyle Alexander for Smoltz rehash in the paper, especially on trade day..

That trade happened August 12, 1987 and Tiggers lost AL Championship to Minny. Alexander was 9-0 with a 1.53 era for Det in 1987
Smoltz ended up being 210-147, 3.26 era, 154 saves for 20 yrs in Atl.
Alexander was 29-29 with 3.91 era for 3 years in Det.

Did we like the waiver trades for Trainor and Mike GOnzalez? Strop has a future, but Ranger time is now.
