C.J. Wilson Free Agency Thread

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Nov 17, 2011 12:18 am

He deserves his own thread. There have been a great deal of reports over the last two weeks, so we'll see what ends up happening, but it appears he's seeking $120 million.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that C.J. Wilson is looking for a six-year, $120 million contract.

Rangers appear ready to fight for C.J. Wilson

"The Texas Rangers find themselves in the middle of the sweepstakes for the top free-agent starting pitcher for a second consecutive off-season, and they have given C.J. Wilson's agent every indication that they plan to be serious players for the left-hander.

Bob Garber dined Tuesday evening with Rangers assistant general manager Thad Levine and director of baseball operations Matt Vinnola in what Garber called a "productive meeting."

The process is still in its early stages, and Garber isn't giving away any state secrets that have popped up so far during the annual end-of-year general managers meetings.

It's become clear Wilson doesn't want to leave the Rangers but is prepared to do so if they don't make the right offer. The market is projected to be a minimum of five years, and a team that offers six could win the bidding." http://www.star-telegram.com/2011/11/15 ... fight.html

I do not see Rangers paying $120 for WIlson. He is one of their successes, but for a 32 year old pitcher, you do not go out that far or that much. HE was pretty great over stretches this season, but he did have the worst post season of any starting pitcher ever.

I agree. I think Mr. Ryan won't pay him that amount of money and C.J. seems to be meeting with more teams. The Marlins are next.

Well, Texas will receive one or two draft picks depending on what occurs, if C.J. signs with another team.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, free agent left-hander C.J. Wilson asked the Angels for a $100 million contract.

I wonder if the Rangers have a 5 for $90 million on the table and he is looking for someone to over bid it?

I am sure that CCJ is also insulted by Rangers 4/60 offer. If angels want to pay 5/100 for CCJ, then have a ball. Not worth it.

Well Wilson goes to the Angels, that is fine with me we can find a replacement and he got more money than i would ever give him. But he did go to division rival LAA along with Pujols(wow). I just hope we can somehow sign Prince now and trade for Garza and one up the Angels.

Dont bet on it the Rangers have a lot of guys coming up for free agency the next two seasons and they are going to want to get paid.

I don't see the Rangers signing Fielder with Hamilton's contract coming up next season. I do see them aggressively going after Garza and Yu now. They will have to part with more youth now to keep up with the Angels.
I wouldn't be surprised if a major trade is in the works that involves one of their power hitters that are have contracts coming up. Hamilton, Kinsler, Cruz, and Napoli will all most likely get big contracts with somebody but definitely not the same team.

I hear Cruz. but Rangers do their business where it belongs, in secret. Despite being a huge fan, I want them to surprise with secrecy.

Cruz would be my first choice to be traded. As much as I loved watching his timely homers this season I think he is somewhat expendible and wouldn't mind turning him into a frontline starter if possible. I wonder if there is a trade in the works that involves one of our hitters for Garza.
