The Braves are on the verge of acquiring Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira.

The deal is done, pending a review of the medical records of the players involved, according to major-league sources.

The Braves will receive Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.

The Rangers will receive catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus and two pitching prospects.

I like it. I just wanna know who the 2 pitching prospects are. I'm hoping one is a lefty. Does anyone have any idea who they might be or an idea of when we'll find out.

newberg sent out a newsflash on one of the pitchers its a 19 year old named neftali perez in short A. pretty good #'s but its a little hard to predict how a young player like that will project. here's his #'s:

Feliz is 2-0, 2.05 in seven appearances for Danville , fanning 28 and walking 12 in 26.1 innings, and allowing just 16 hits (.178 opponents

One of the pitching prospects is reported to be Matt Harrison, one of Atlanta's top starting pitching prospects. The other is Nestali Feliz, a 19-year old pitching prospect, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram adds.

I think Salty and Elvis will a be very good additions for the Rangers. The pitching prospects on the other hand do not expect much from them. They might be special and they might not be. I am just looking over the recent history of the Braves. Their pitching prospects have done nothing in the majors. Schmidt turn into something special but it took him 5 years after the Braves traded him to develop. Only other pitcher is Adam Wainwright.

I think Matt Harrison will be a good pitcher someday, if he can get over this injury

you guys should be really really happy with what you got, 3 future stars and salty could very well end up being as good as tex....

IMO, we gave up a little too much....

EDIT: make that 4, i didnt know who this feliz kid was, but now that ive looked over his profiles, this kid looks special....

You got the Braves 3 best prospects and a 19 year old pitcher. And the Braves have one of the best farm systems so those 3 and going to be very good players.

I bet only 1 out of every 3 "top prospects" really ever ban out. With how the Rangers operate it'll be the one that they trade away later.

This deal works "if" one of the three prospects hits big or 2 of 3 become above average players. Should that not happen than JD got jacked for a 4th time.

You can say that with any trade. If any trade doesn't pan out the way its planned then it doesn't look good. But all a GM can do is go off of the information that they had right now, and right now and what they've seen to this point. If these players continue to progress close to the way that they should, then this trade will look just fine.

I'm not saying the Rangers shouldn't have made the trade. It was something they had to do, and they got as much as can be expected. But you can still count on more prospects failing than succeeding so it's nothing to be excited about.
