It is not a matter of picking a strategy. It is a matter of seeing it thru to fruition or failure. Hicks sticks his nose in and plays GM far too often. I think Daniels has a long leash, and will take advantage of it.

Yes, Hicks has basically changed strategies every year. I now expect him to overpay badly for a veteran first baseman.

what veteran 1st baseman is there to overpay for?
daniels is doing a fine job, when john hart left the farm system was in disarray and this year was ranked 28th with only 2 real gems of prospects (hurley and volquez, and volquez was near faltering) but daniels has massively upgraded the system and now will be top 15 maybe even top 12.
what the article fails to realize is he's only been here 2 years not near enough time for his plan to be seen through and i think hicks realizes that so daniels can enact his plan and build around homegrown talent (like anyone smart team should do) and fill any holes through F/A
