Byrd talk: Outfielder Marlon Byrd, named the Harold McKinney Good Guy of the Year winner, acknowledged he's been informed the Chicago Cubs have expressed interest in him.

The Cubs are seeking a right-handed hitting center fielder or possibly a full-time center fielder if they have to include outfielder Felix Pie in a deal with Baltimore to possibly get lefty Erik Bedard and second baseman Brian Roberts.

The Rangers have reportedly turned down an offer of outfielder Matt Murton for Byrd and would not be willing to revisit the deal unless Chicago adds at least one or two young pitching prospects.

How can a team with such weak outfielders even think of trading one of their more established guys?

b/c matt murton's better than byrd (that is if we get murton)

if we got matt murton for marlon byrd that'd be a great deal for us, his 1st 2 years are better than byrd's career year and he's 4 years younger

or pitching prospect sean gallagher wouldnt be bad (though that could be wishful thinking)

Byrd's stats were better last year, and the rangers do not seem to think he is better since they turned down the trade.
