"Wilnerized"

haha! Amazing, I didn't even need your explanation in order to understand exactly what you meant

I've been using "Wilnering" as a verb over the past several years, although I would define it a bit differently. For me, it's the constant and contrarian act of defending the Jays even in indefensible situations.
One flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.

My feeling is this team has been "Wilnerized", as in "better is always just around the corner so stop whining".

This term perfectly describes the Jays subreddit. The mere mention of changing the manager or trading for a reliever will see your karma hit lows you didn't think were possible. Success is always just around the corner and making any changes to the team would be foolish.

It's shocking how different our sports culture is from Boston's or New York's. Their fans want to irrationally fire and trade everyone during the most mundane slump. Our fans sit back and enjoy the show, no matter how terrible the team is doing. Maybe it's true what they say about Canadians being too polite.

People here get too attached to the players/managers on these teams in general, I find. Remember that there was quite a large segment of the Raptors fanbase that was initially upset that DeRozan was traded for one of the best players in the league.

I still to this day could not understand any fan that watched DeMars disgraceful 2018 playoff performance being mad about that trade. I loved it just to get off DeMars contract. Getting back Danny Green was just icing on the cake.

But yeah in general the Jays reddit is basically "lol the market hasn't developed yet" like we have 3 weeks to waste. This week will be really telling but who knows I feel Shapiro/Atkins will just let this ride out like last year. Because if you told me the team would be in the spot it's in rn I would've said someone needed to be fired.

There has been tons of tactical issues over this season that can be blamed on either Charlie or management.

1. Batting Tapia 1st in a game, in which he goes 0/5 and ended the game with Vlad on deck. Batting Tapia too high in general. Most likely Charlie
2. Resting Kirk way too much instead of having him mostly DH/C. Most likely Charlie
3. Batting Bo 2nd with his abysmal OBP. Ideally Vlad should be 2, with Kirk/Teo/Bo rounding out 3-5. Most likely Charlie
4. Pitching Castillo is garbage innings. Most likely Charlie
5. Starting Hatch and sending down Gage/Castillo. Management

Out of the top 5 issues this year, Charlie is responsible for 4 of them. Add to the disappointment last year, it’s time for Charlie to go. Problem starts with him, and if firing him doesn’t do the job then we start looking into management. But for now even with suspect pitching, this roster should be good enough to be holding on to a WC spot solidly.

Once Baltimore overtakes us in a few days and we drop to last place in the division, I think Shatkins will have to do something. Right...?

We have to do something, Charlie/hitting coach is just a scapegoat kinda move but it should be made regardless this team isn't talented enough to outplay Charlie's idiocy. But also the pitching NEEDS help. Even sportsnet media heads are saying that now. Like we got a top 6-7 offense (even with its inconsistencies and uh questionable lineup construction). But a bottom 3 staff in the AL.
