I know Schneider loves Biggio, having managed him in the minors, but he has no business leading off today. Not sure why Espinal is now being benched 3 times a week. It is like Schneider forgot he was in the All-Star game 10 days ago. At the end of the day, Biggio is still hitting .220, and Espinal should have been playing today with the off-day tomorrow.

Espinal has been terrible offensively in July (and bad all year against RHP with a 75 wRC+). The argument to play him is defense-based (where he's elite), but I expect you'll start seeing Biggio get more regular starts against RHPs.

Should have been there already the way Bichette has hit this year.

Not giving Vlad a hit on a ball he hit 105 MPH on a line is a strange decision.

Biggio is Schneider's Tapia. If not Espinal, maybe have Gurriel lead off. I don't know, but anyone but Biggio/Tapia to lead off. They are the clear 2 worst hitters on the team.

Inexplicable that Berrios was pulled after that 7th inning the way he's pitched this game so Mayza can face some RHBs. Is there a way we can get a manager who knows what he's doing one of these years?

WTF. Does Schneider have an 80 pitch count limit imposed on this rotation?

I'm half watching at work but I am also confused as to why Berrios was pulled after 80 pitches... Why waste the pen and risk them **** it up if the starter is killing it?

Hell are the Nerds controlling that too?!

Berrios back? Haven't seen if his underlying numbers have improved but he's stringing together some solid play rn.

Biggio has an OBP of .341 on the year, so I don't necessarily have a problem with him at leadoff occasionally when Springer is out. Unlike Tapia, Biggio has been a net positive player over his career. Despite his injury struggles the last couple years, BBRef has him at 6.3 WAR over the equivalent of 2 full seasons of at-bats. When healthy, Biggio should be a solid player.

Biggio's biggest problem is the Ks. If he's going to strike out as much as he does, then he needs to have a higher slugging percentage. The number of meatballs down the middle that he swings through is concerning. I don't know if he needs to cut down his swing or what, but I'd be happy with him as a doubles power kind of hitter if it meant he made more regular contact. Add more contact to the high walk rate from the left-side of the plate, and you have a very useful hitter.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

I’m still a believer in Biggio. He is a very good bench or platoon piece. If we were to trade Bichette for Soto we’d need him

He had a great start versus the Tigers a few weeks ago too, then proceeded to turn into a potato again his next start. We need to see him string together a few strong starts.

Biggio is a solid bench player. He's defensively versatile and has been decent on offence in the latter half of the season. He shouldn't be leading off obviously, but I'm fine with him in the lineup semi-regularly (certainly more fine than with Tapia).
