general manager, manager without actually playing before?

how do you get into that field?

I am sure most non-players have some sort of business degrees, sports management diplomas, things like that. They are obviously more common programs in the states than Canada.

With the increasing value of statistics, most new assistants tend to be number guys heavily recruited from good mathematics schools, with minors usually in human resources or business management.

If that's not for you, you could always have a 40+ year career in baseball, starting by coaching a semi-pro team, hopefully moving onto a high school, then a college, then a pro team, then, yes, the majors. Again, more common in the States where high school teams have people solely paid to coach.

You have to have either one of these three things....

1.) Business degrees/math degrees/SPAD degrees....you must be highly educated in the business world.

2.) You have to have connections within the baseball community

3.) Money....seems to be the universal bargaining chip.
