the HR’s with runners on is a nice bonus but man, the dbacks FO must be beside themselves for trading this guy away for a terrible baserunning, defense-first catcher whose power would play in williamsport. what a fleecing.

Arizona is more than happy to have Moreno under control for 5 more years after this one, along with Gurriel in LF. Moreno is One of the better hitters in the NL in the month of July, and eclipsing Kirk in every offensive category. While Gurriel has been good the past two months, and has the same numbers of home runs and a higher OPS than Varsho. Arizona beat writer said two weeks ago that the Diamondbacks would not even trade Gurriel straight up for Mendoza Level Varsho.

For all of Varsho's power, light hitting Moreno has a higher OPS than Varsho (LOL). Arizona with the Fleece Job looking at atrocious .202 BA, .284 OBP, and .692 OPS. Nice that Varsho can hits the occasional home run, when he is absolutely trash offensively otherwise, and strikes out like a fool time after time.

i take quality over quantity. varsho has huge upside, gurriel and moreno are run of the mill players.

Nothing run of the Mill about Moreno. 22 year old coming off a 4 WAR season and we're left with an obese Kirk who will decline quickly and a AAA catcher. Varsho is fine but I doubt he was untouchable save for including Moreno in a deal. There could have been other avenues to acquire him if the FO had their mind set on it.

to a team that has trouble scoring, 31 runs and 4 hr in 80 games is the definition of mediocre.

That is why if this organization is serious about competing in 2025, they need to acquire another very good Starting Catcher either in free agency or a trade. Then this discussion of Kirk will be a moot point. Kirk can be the usual backup catcher. If Jansen performs well the rest of the year in Boston and stays healthy, I would not mind even bringing him back in free agency.

JAYS Sweep! Great game. Managed to get some tickets in section 126 from a friend, and the view was spectacular.

Also, this was my 7mo kid's second game... and his first Complete Game! Such a champ.

The other side of the field doesnt only pertain to varsho. I dont recall the last time jansen or kirk threw a runner out. Morenos arm is unreal.
