I'd go Seranthony, but at this point shuffle things for the sake of change and hope it works for guys in new roles (and that could be the new closer and it could work for Hoffman earlier innings as well). If its Yariel, fine.

Dominguez is better used situationally and primarily against RHBs given his splits

There’s no good option here on the major league roster. Call up Fisher and put him there

Pains me to say it but this is probably our best option right now.

I still want to know what in the world happened to Louis Varland since reporting to our organization. He SHOULD have been the guy poised for this moment.

Worth the read:

He should be better than what we have seen thus far.

Yesavage

I want his length out of the pen going forward so not a good option either

He found money. He’s swing and miss. A pure add.

Ride Nance and Rodriguez for long relief.

I'm not ready to go with Yesavage as my closer, primarily for development reasons. If it was a high probability that he would be successful at that role sure, but he is not there based on what he has done and AA/AAA. Using him as closer, and having him be unsuccessful a few times could really damage his long-term makeup.

Bringing him up after we roll out Easton Lucas in a few days, and using him in middle innings "leverage" situations I am perfectly good with going with.

Looks like April Vlad again, timing is completely off

He was literally carrying our offense for a good month before that injury and now we can’t score at all

I want him pitching 2-3 innings a game in his appearances, we badly need it

The Brewers have 4-5 relievers better than any we have.

Our 5 starters have been mostly really good for the past month, going 6 innings more often than not. Berrios had a few stinkers this month, but for the most part they are doing that part.

Not sure if its a 2-3 inning role... probably more of a 3-6 out role in the sixth and seventh inning.

Just 5 appearances with ERs out of 30 from June 1 until last week

Nothing “apparent” about it

Lol

Well he has been awful again. If you were one of the very few who believed he turned a corner... guess again.

He was. He kept defending him.

Alternatively, perhaps demoting Jeff Hoffman to the 6th and 7th inning will improve his mindset and performance. We have holes in the pen from the 6th-9th innings. If Hoffman could deliver in that role we would also improve... of course no certainty to that either.

This sums up Jeff Coughman quite nicely. Bottom line is like others have said, the man is a choker and is not a guy who will get you to the promise land. Credit goes to Philly GM Dave Dumbroski who said in Spring Training in response to a question about Hoffman from a reporter, that he was not comfortable paying what the Jays paid to Hoffman (since he has never been a full-time closer over the course of a 162 game season). The guy the Jays should have signed is the guy Hoffman was setting up for last year- Carlos Estevez or even Aroldis Chapman.

Both names which made much more sense, and who I was lobbying these fools in the front office to acquire this past off-season. Otherwise, they should have done what it takes to get Duran at the trade deadline. Chapman was also only looking for a one year deal, and has been one of the best Closers in all of baseball. Congrats to Philadelphia, Atlanta and Baltimore for passing on Jeff Coughman this off-season (Baltimore and Atlanta had concerns about his shoulder). Coughman reminds me of the second coming of Randy Myers from 1998, who used to melt down in the 9th Inning, along with Billy Koch 25 years ago also. Coughman cannot be the Closer going forward. Let him pitch in the 7th and 8th, like he did last year in Philadelphia.

Per Schneider, Hoffman will not be losing the closer role after this outing.

They’ll never take out of the role anyway so it’s a pointless discussion

Thank God we're prioritizing Hoffman's feelings over Organizational success. Who cares about winning games. Who cares about the playoffs. Our #1 priority is, and always will be, making sure no fee fees are hurt at any time!
