Blue Jays Sign Rod Barajas

Post#1 » by risktaker91 » Fri Jan 25, 2008 8:45 pm

Looks like he's coming back after backing out last year.

1 year/ 1.2 million, not bad.

Yeah I agree. I was very disappointed that the Jays couldn't get him before but glad he didn't sign with us now.

I've never liked Barajas whatsoever, so meh to this move. I guess it's cheap, but he's a relatively useless player.

I guess anything is better then nothing but another small move.

I guess, we will just have to play it out again.

Such an odd move. JP got lucky when this guy backed out last year. But now we get him anyways. Minor money, 1 yr, so it doesn't matter. But this move means nothing.

How's Barajas' arm?

Must be better than Zaun's?

Barajas has a 33.7 caught-stealing percentage in his nine years in the league. Zaun on the otherhand only threw out 10% of its baserunners. So to answer your question, yes, by a fair margin.

While Barajas might not be great, he's still going to be a huge upgrade on the 300 horrific AB's that Fasano, Thigpen and Phillips provided last year. Barajas is an average offensive Catcher while being a decent, defensive C as well. We could do far worse for the money JP shelled out here.

I just looked it up and after being a free-swinging power guy with a poor OBP for his entire career, Barajas suddenly started taking walks and vaulted to a .352 OBP last season which was about 70 points higher than his career mark. (before anyone asks, only 3/21 BB's were intentional). Here's hoping that it's not a fluke.

Masai is overrated.
I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.
