why the **** do people want jason bay, hes an average outfielder. because he's canadian? you think thats gonna put people back into the seats, hell no. and why would we need bay if have lind, rios and wells already set? unless we're lind, which would be stupid. and whats with the rumors of getting ibanez? how does that make sense? could he play 1b or perhaps dh

I think the Toronto fans have proven over the years that the only thing that will put them in the seats (for the Jays) is a competitive team. So no, I don't think Jason Bay would have solved that problem. Hell I don't think Griffey would have solved that problem.

However Jason Bay has (when healthy) produced 30/100 consistently and is a career .900 OPS guy. He's done that with absolutely no protection in the lineup (compared to what he'll have in Boston). Those numbers are against the NL, so they may dip a bit, but I think that what Boston has done is clone JD Drew and put him in LF (not bad).

I didn't want Bay on the Jays simply because he's a Right handed bat (and we don't need any more of those), but I'd certainly take his production. If the price was Marcum and Snider (as rumoured) then I'm glad we told them to go pound dirt, but if the price was, for example, Carlson, Cecil, and Lind then I would have considered pulling the trigger.

As for Ibanez, my assumption was that we wanted a Left handed bat to DH, play first and one of the corners. He would have been the end of the Wilkermench experiment as well. I heard League and Purcey for him was the rumour. Personally I would have prefered League and Litsch (I think Purcey has a higher ceiling) but I'm not sure the cost there was unreasonable. Especially considering that the picks we got for him may also have been decent after he walked.

LOL at J.P. thinking we're still contenders. I'm glad he didn't make any trades to damage our future anymore. Now the next GM will have a little easier time blowing this team up and starting over.

My OP wasn;t about us going for Jason Bay. I said we should have went for Barry Bonds in May when we were actually still in the race.

I was wondering where JP was because he wasn't able to pull off any moves. I agree with rejecting the Bay proposal. I just think a prudent GM would have found a way to build up a market for his guys. Especially someone like AJ who was leading the AL in strikeouts at the time (now's he's even second in wins).
