Travis Snider

Post#1 » by Nolan » Mon Sep 22, 2008 8:56 pm

So far the kid's looked pretty good and I think he has serious chance of making the team next year. Through 18 games he's batted .321 with 2 HR and 11 RBI's. He's still striking out at a pretty high rate but he's shown some composure and he really looks like he's going to be a very good hitter.

What do you guys think of Snider so far? do think he'll be on this team next year?

Stunned. When he was called up, there was no doubt in my mind that he would fall flat on his face...that's what 20 year olds who opened the season in high-A do. His 28.3% K rate is high (projected over 600 ABs, that'd be 170...and worse if he faced lefties), but not astronomical, and while his average is inflated by an abnormally high BA/BIP Snider is hitting for extra bases with enough frequency to convince me that it's not entirely a fluke.

Still, I'd like to see him start next year in AAA. Bring him to major league camp, definitely, and start him in the minors with a target of June and a mandate to improve his plate discipline. If he mashes, bring him up; if not, a full year in AAA and a 2010 debut (at age 22) is hardly stunting his growth.

I'm pleased with his play so far.

Let's hope he can be a full time contributor to the team next year.
