Not having a beer at the Rogers Centre tonight?
Thank AC/DC concertgoers for smoking pot, minors being served alcohol and people smuggling their own liquor inside the Rogers Centre.
Those are just some of the incidents stretching back to 2007 that prompted the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario to suspend the old Skydome's liquor licence for tonight's Toronto Blue Jays game against the Detroit Tigers, an April 21 game against the Texas Rangers and an Aug. 1 Toronto Argonauts' game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
"(Rogers Centre officials) agreed that these things took place," AGCO spokesman Lisa Murray told the Sun yesterday. "They agreed to the allegations and agreed to the three event date suspensions."
The agreement between the Rogers Centre and the AGCO was completed Friday, the same day the stadium announced tonight's game would be dry along with the two other dates.
AGCO investigators found on Oct. 11, 2007, May 6, 2008 and Jan. 9, 2009, drunken patrons were found in the licensed premises. Two people were caught with their own liquor in the stadium April 18, 2008. A minor was served drinks and was caught drinking inside the Rogers Centre May 6. Three minors were drinking alcohol and two minors were able to purchase alcohol on July 3, 2008. On Jan. 9, the night AC/DC rocked the Rogers Centre, several patrons were smoking marijuana, AGCO officials confirmed.
If you're not into boozeless baseball, the Jays will exchange tickets for fans who would prefer to go to a game with liquor. Ticket holders interested in switching will have to go to the Gate 9 box office before the game.
