WT: Opsera Team Rankings

Post#1 » by chunkybwoy_53 » Mon Apr 13, 2009 9:37 pm

So, Reina has created some new stat that ranks teams based on OPS and ERA.

In order to determine a team's Opsera, I take their OPS, move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract the team's ERA from that number. [\quote]

10. Toronto Blue Jays: 3.98

Roy Halladay has a relatively modest 3.86 ERA and 5.79 K/9 rate, but he is 2-0 already.

Early on, it's hard to tell how accurate this statistic is for determining the best team...

Why is it earned runs, and not just RA?

i find it a bit strange to base your Power Ranking solely on stats. Moving the decimal place from the OPS? subtracting the ERA? I don't know.. it's a neat idea at first, but it'd be nice to have the Power Rankings to be more indicative than to just include OPB and ERA into the equation

I know in basketball, strength of schedual or SOS is one of the main variables in this type of equasion. I don't see why it would be any different in baseball.

Yeah, it's a really strange stat. The results are even stranger. The Tigers are ahead of us even though we beat them in a series earlier in the week.

Just on a side note, two horrible defensive plays by Rios out in right.

On another side note, JESSIE LITSCH sucks.
