I haven't looked into it, so you may be right that the Rogers family owns a controlling interest in Rogers Comm, but they still can't run it however they like. One of my friends taught me the term fiduciary responsibility, and I liked to use it in all sorts of inappropriate places, but I'm pretty confident this is an appropriate one. If they wanted to run the Jays like Cuban runs the Mavs, they have to buy with their own cash, not some that is 45% (or whatever the number is) other people's.

And it may not work the way I said (though if so, it pisses me off that a promising young team can't drive fans out), but it is no where near as simple as you think it is, either.

Check out the numbers: when the Jays have increased payroll, a sign there was reason to think they could contend, it has had pretty much zero effect on attendance, right up until the payroll bump a few years back (and it had been trending up the years before). That's because increasing payroll on a team that isn't very good to begin with has never been a recipe for success, unless you are the Yankees, able to spend 50% more than anyone else. And as I've already said, that isn't the Jays, as much as we would all love it to be.

Recently though, the team did show some promise, and the Jays correspondingly increased payroll. This year, though, there was a good reason to suspect the team wasn't about to contend, losing most of last years rotation. You can blame them for not having fielded a good enough team to contend even with a boosted payroll many years, but blaming them for not spending more money this year or other years, when there was no reason to expect a return on investment, is just silly.

(Lyle Overbay, by the way, does hit like a first baseman. An average one. You may not like an average first baseman, but that is your problem, not his.)

I've got two tickets for the Thursday game against the Rangers: Premium Dugout - Aisle 119 - Row 8 - Seat 101 - 102 = Seats are couple rows behind where the people get served in that special section behind home plate - Season ticket holder price of $53 per . . . . I'll give them up for $60 for both - only pickup available - Dixie and 401 - leave email if interested.
