Minor Leaguer performs major league bat trick.

If some mad genius ever creates a rodeo for baseball, his or her first call should be to the man in this video, Josh Womack, who currently plays for the Long Beach Armada of the independent Golden Baseball League.

Womack, a second-round pick of the Mariners in 2002, didn't have enough success with them to advance beyond Class A (other than some apparently token at-bats) before being let go in '08.

That he is batting .293/.387/.402 for the Armada this season in a league that features the likes of Jose Lima(notes), Mac Suzuki and Hideki Irabu must be great for Womack. After all, he's still getting paid to play a kid's game.

But it's not Womack's hitting that has the Internet Tubes abuzz. Add a ball to the equation and, sorry Josh, but few care. It's his nimble digits, the lightest fingers this side of a cabal of Times Square pickpockets, that are providing him this 15 minutes.

Don't think it's real? Check out this link as well

oh dam, that's pretty cool.....

anyone remember Joe Carter's "trick" when he would walk to the plate, and he'd kinda slam the bat on the ground, and would rebound and come back? Kinda hard to explain, hopefully someone else remembers this lol.

I'm sure that's real. When I played baseball as a kid (like, age 12 or 13) I could do a much simpler variation on that; spinning the bat a half-turn and catching it in the on-deck circle with what looks to be the same wrist motion. That was actually really easy to do -- not a self-aggrandizing 'that was really easy to do'...more like 'do it yourself and you'll have it down in three tries' -- and while what he is doing involves a lot more intricate timing to make it look like the swing continues naturally, I don't think it'd be incredibly difficult to master.

Edit: I just did the 'swing' on the second try with a paper towel roll (I'm just that lame!). His is still extremely impressive to watch, largely because his hands barely move and he keeps the plane of the bat flat.

The first time he does it in the video i was really confused because it looks like his bat is flying. But then I realized that was another bat. :)
