Lind Misses ASG, Final Spot Goes To Inge

MLB.com - Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge and Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino are your choices in the dramatic 2009 All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote, comeback survivors of the wildest overall balloting in the history of a four-day event that decided the 33rd and final roster spots for the 80th All-Star Game on July 14 at Busch Stadium.

Previous winners of the All-Star Game Sprint Final Vote are: Evan Longoria (AL, 2008); Corey Hart (NL, 2008); Hideki Okajima (AL, 2007); Chris Young (NL, 2007); A.J. Pierzynski (AL, 2006); Nomar Garciaparra (NL, 2006); Scott Podsednik (AL, 2005); Roy Oswalt (NL, 2005); Hideki Matsui (AL, 2004); Bobby Abreu (NL, 2004); Jason Varitek (AL, 2003); Geoff Jenkins (NL, 2003); Johnny Damon (AL, 2002); and Andruw Jones (NL, 2002). I heard he finished last in voting, on the Rays broadcast.

He was in last place the entire time. Inge is batting like .260. The system is broken.

Even though with just 4 players, the odds are much greater, it's still like being voted in the starting lineup. It's a popularity contest. Therefore, Lind never had a prayer

I just don't see how Curtis Granderson is an All-Star over Lind. He's beat statistically by Lind in every category other than SB's and defense. Let's not even get into the fan voting of Josh Hamilton which is just (Please Use More Appropriate Word) really.

Lind being a DH for much of the season obviously hurt him, but I think his numbers were just too good to ignore.

Ah well. He'll be there more than a handful of times as a Blue Jay, his first appearance just isn't going to be this year though.

"Inge is an American League All-Star for the first time after receiving 11.8 million votes, the most by an AL winner, and holding off Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler in a battle that was seesaw for the first 48 hours and then close for the final 48. They were followed in order by Angels third baseman Chone Figgins, Rays first baseman Carlos Pena and Blue Jays designated hitter Adam Lind, all of whom drew impressive fan support but not enough."

Americans don't know who Lind is and there is no way the Canadian voting could make up for that. Lind had the best overall numbers and somehow finishes behind Chone bloody Figgins (1 HR 27 RBI 24 SB) and Pena (.232 AVG)! In an ideal world the voting would have been something like Lind, Kinsler, Inge, Pena, Figgins.

As much as I'd like to say Lind deserves to go, it's tougher to feel correct about it because he plays the OF.

I think Lind has played better than Inge, but I think Inge's season is actually more surprising, so it creates more buzz for him.

Of course, if Lind were playing for most American teams, he may have made it. I'm actually more surprised that Inge got in over Kinsler... I thought the voting in Texas would run away with it.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.
