This team was going nowhere with Rios making that much money as a below average 6th place hitter which is pretty much what he is and will be for the foreseeable future.

There are two halves to baseball. He's really good at the other one. (And actually above average at the one you are complaining about, but who likes facts?)

true that. but i only go to 1-2 games a year, max. people complain about the jays never spend. well, they can't spend money they don't have. the revenue sharing in baseball is crap, so they have to depend on themselves on making enough to spend on payroll.

look at the raptors, they have a strong fan base. the immediate carter era were crap but they still had good attendance. so they are always able to go out and sign or aquire big contracts if the cap permitted.

however, you can take issue with how they spend it. but that's another debate.
