Re: McGwire may return as pinch hitter
If the Cardinals actually get to a place where they can just throw McGwire onto the 40 man roster for **** and giggles, then their farm system must be a disaster. It'll never happen.
Unless I don't know what I'm talking about. If they don't have to drop anyone to let him bat for a day then cool go ahead, no harm no foul.

Lol for some reason I read the thread title as McGowan and had a near panic attack.

To be honest I don't think this is totally crazy. The guy is pure power and it's clear that he's kept himself in shape. In his last season he hit 29 homers in 299 ABs. The year before he hit 32 in 236. He was so banged up when he retired that he's probably in better shape overall, though obviously time will have taken a toll. Still I think he could help out by hitting a few dingers off the bench.

Can we rename this thread "Tony LaRussa is going senile"?

Re: McGwire may return as pinch hitter
could McGwire and LaRussa be using this to help Mark get in the hall of fame?
if he plays this year, would this extend McGwire for another 15 years of voting?
Maybe his thinking is that in 15 years, memory will fade, or things will change, new voters?

That was my first thought as well; that McGwire is trying to get his image rectified so he can re-enter the HOF sweepstakes.
However, if he really wanted to do that, he would probably be better off begging a bottom-feeding AL team to allow him to be their DH.
Maybe someone like Kansas City; a team that can use some attention and some reason to bring fans back to the stadium.

LaRussa is his buddy though...from Oakland to St. Louis they are linked. LaRussa, in my mind, is just as guilty as the players he coached...McGwire, Canseco
