Rzepczynski out, Molina in, Frasor to save?

Post#1 » by Attonitus » Wed Mar 31, 2010 5:51 pm

Blue Jays left-hander Marc Rzepczynski is expected to miss up to six weeks with a broken finger after he was hit in the hand by a line drive in Tuesday's game.

Rzepczynski was competing for a spot in Toronto's starting rotation.

The Blue Jays also reassigned catcher Raul Chavez to minor league camp, leaving Jose Molina to backup John Buck, and manager Cito Gaston says Jason Frasor will be the team's closer to open the season.

I figured Rzepczynski would make it as the 4th starter so maybe this opens the door for Eveland or even Cecil. I would rather have Chavez as the back up catcher but I like Frasor as closer, I just hope he can handle the pressure this time.

Goddammit...keep your bloody throwing hand out of the way of fast-moving objects. A single out in a Spring Training game isn't worth six weeks on the shelf.

And Frasor should close; beyond being the most logical choice from a baseball standpoint, this could also boost him up enough to be a type-A free agent (Downs has it locked up if he doesn't flame out, and can stay healthy) or bring back a good return.
