I really think it makes a lot of sense, Arencibia really does seem to have that 'presence' at the plate and the power to be a good hitting 1b (yea he had a tough game today, but we can see this kid can hit). It makes even more sense when you look at the depth we have with catchers in the minors, keep Buck for another year with an option for a second year until D'Arnaud or Perez are ready, both seem to have more defensive potential then Arencibia. What do you all think?

Perhaps a few years down the road, but Arencibia is an above-average defensive catcher...moving him to 1B where his bat might not play should be a last resort.

I wouldn't say he he is an above-average defensive catcher more like an average defensive catcher, from everything I've heard he has a decent arm (showed it off last night), but needs to work on his game calling. Its been his bat that's propelled him to the majors this year, if anything the jays wanted him to work on his defense and game calling in the minors for the rest of the year.

He's been rated as above-average for a couple years...when his bat was dragging last season, many analysts figured that he'd still make it as a Rod Barajas-style backup/desperation starter because of his work behind the plate.
