Who else is sick of...
Meaningless September games? In all fairness, the Jays have not had a meaningful September game since 1993...WTF is that?
No tonly do these guys never make the playoffs...but they're never even in contention!
I've just completed given up faith in this team...anyone see any reason for optimism?

Um... J-Bau, Cecil, Romero, Marcum, Morrow, Escobar just some reasons to be optimistic. Not to mention Snider, Hill, Lind. Drabek, Hech, Gose, Arencibia and plenty more in the minors. The future looks bright for the Jays.

yep - this is a topic for looking back, not forward. The BJ's have the most promising immediate future out of our sport franchises. A few tweaks in the off season and we're in the thick of the playoff hunt next year.

Re: Who else is sick of...
Well I wrote almost identical sentiments about Sept. baseball a couple weeks ago, so I feel for the OP.
I don't see things as being without hope though. My point was how good the club has been, although my focus was only the last 5 years and how frustrating it is not to even sniff an exciting race in Sept.
Still, I can enjoy meaningless baseball. I can enjoy a losing team with some good narratives even, but I definitely relate to some of the frustration above.
Where I differ is I think this team has been put together and played well enough that it deserves meaningful games in Sept, not that it's their fault they haven't achieved that level. In any other division we're chasing a team no better than BOS for a playoff spot, wouldn't that have made the last 6 games more exciting? I don't want to do the whole, boohoo the AL east is too hard, thing again though. I just think you should be proud of how good this team has been this year and hope for continued progress. It sucks that certain factors mean you need a top 2 record to make the playoffs, but focus on the positives: this team can match any team in baseball in any given series, has 4 very capable starters, the league leader in HR (by 7!!!!), and a burgeoning farm system. Things are pretty great for the Jays, even if it never amounts to a playoff birth. This is a good squad and a good franchise right now.

Although the perception is slowly changing, I'm sure that this is the mentality of the average Jays fan like the OP, and Damian Cox :|

Wow. I mean maybe at the start of the season i could accept this...but after how well these guys have played this year and how hard they've worked to prove anyone wrong? Shame on you. GTFO.

I certainly see the point of frustration that we havent had meaningful September games since 93 but to say theres no hope for the future is all wrong and very ignorant. Clearly the OP hasnt been paying attention how this team has been set up for the long term.

That word could apply to those who are excited over a team fourth in their division.

but this is baseball.
most teams are playing meaningless games in Sept.
you don't make the leap from meh to pennant in 1 year.
the Jays are probably 1 year ahead of rebuild schedule (thanks to their pitching).
replace Fred Lewis and EE with better players, put someone good in the DH spot and replace Cee-d'oh with a manager who can properly fill out a line-up card and you are set.
The Yanks are going to be 1 year older and the Rays will lose a good player (Crawford) this offseason. Boston also looks meh (except for their pitching).
me is excited

It's ignorant to believe that finishing fourth in the present means there's hope for the future?
Do tell, oh wise one.

Boston is having an off year this season. That's what we need. Those teams to have off years. Yet even with an off year, they're still better than the Jays.

Except that there is no plan to do any of that. It's not like the Jays will suddenly splurge in free agency.

You didn't answer my question.
Again, how is it ignorant to believe that although the Jays will finish 4th this year, there is still hope for the future? You realize that teams can actually change from one season to the next right?
