Brandon Morrow will have 1 more start

.. and then be shut-down. According to the live broadcast from Buck, they are worried about his high pitch count increase from previous year.

Not surprising and smart move.

Morrow threw 63.1, 95.1, and 124.2 innings over the last three seasons respectively, so 150 is about where I expected the Jays would shut him down. They are following the 30 IP increase in this case. Seems like such a waste that the Mariners used him so infrequently during his first three pro seasons, but hey, we wouldn't have him right now if they treated him well, so can't complain.

He should be ready for 180+ IP next season barring injury.

150 innings limit(only 26 innings increase) seems a little conservative but i'm guessing they're also compensating for that 137 pitch outing and it makes sense.

I was afraid they wouldn't since there was no official talk of it but I'm glad they did.

I think it's going to be Drabek. They have to give the kid a taste. Sucks for him though - it will be like the Hellickson situation, where he comes up, owns everybody, and then has to spend more time in the minors - however, Hellickson's team is at least in the pennant race and has a deep rotation - the Jays on the other hand have a gaping 5th starter spot and are not really in the hunt.

Just bring him up and let him pitch. Worst case scenario he gets his 5 year contract a year earlier than planned ;)

AA was interviewed, and mentioned that there is no clear-cut candidate as of yet (who knows if he was hiding something though). Did throw out names such as Mills, Ray, and some other names..

Smart move by AA.

He mentioned Luis Perez, Ray, Mills, Richmond, and of course Tallet as possible replacements.

Probably Bobby Ray or Mills. Drabek and Richmond in AA to help New Hampshire in the playoffs and Hill is on the DL. But knowing Cito, its gonna be Brian Tallet because he is a warrior and battles out there to eat up innings

I look forward to seeing Jesse Carlson relieving Brian Tallet in the 5th inning (shudder)

Heard about this a few days ago, is there a reason for shuting him down?

It's probably a wise move to shut Morrow down, but I wish they had announced it after that next start, i.e., he's just pitched his final game. I might even have pushed that last start to after Labor Day.

Why? It's the kind of announcement that has sucked some of the life out of the remainder of the season. If they don't bring up Drabek, you can always see the tire deflating.

I never understood this IP as the standard to shut someone down or protect them.
They should be looking at pitch count above all else.

I could be a highly effective ground ball pitcher who is very pitch efficient and therefore, hypothetically pitch more innings than someone who is not as efficient and throws more pitches per inning.
