As per the wiretap...the Yankees won't be going after Crawford or Werth.

Do you guys think the Jays should make an attempt at Crawford? He seems like he would fill a bunch of holes that we need filled.
However could a contract to him set us back? or put us over the top?
I doubt he will come here, more likely Boston, but still...worth a shot?

My vote goes to the Angels. I think he is an awesome player, but not sure how I would feel about Snider in RF.

Re: Should the Jays pursue Crawford?
probably won't happen, but won't be surprised if the jays are considered to be in the running for him. at the very least, you will make boston and tampa sweat a bit more regardless if it was a serious intent at signing him.
personally, i'd sign him as he will have much value going forward. as a rule of thumb you don't sign guys to trade them away, but imagine the value he'd have at the trade deadline. mind you, would not make a whole leap of sense considering the return of wells, snider, bautista (imo best suited for the of) and the anticipated arrival of thames)
mind you signing crawford for 10 million a year makes more sense than what is being reported the jays making a run at papelbon for probably a similar price.

$10mil? That's hilarious. Its going to be closer to $16mil and the contract Matt Holliday got.

Re: Should the Jays pursue Crawford?
He's gonna get monstrosity of a contract, something in the range of 6 years 110 million dollars and he'll be a collosal mistake, most contracts that size end up backfiring and we're talking about guy with a career OPS+ of 107

Ew. Even trading for Rasmus would be better than this.
I think we've got much bigger holes to fill other than the outfield.

I would want him, if Manny took a small deal to come here.
LF:Crawford, CF: Wells, RF: Snider
3B:------, SS: Escobar, 2B: Hill, 1B: Lind
C:-----, DH: Manny
Who's got the best chance at Yu Darvish?
Also, what are the odds we can sign Bedrard, Beltre, V.Mart?

Wouldn't your hole at 3B be filled by Bautista if that was your lineup?
Or would you prefer to just use Bautista as a bench player for 2011 lol

Re: Should the Jays pursue Crawford?
Yeah, Crawford is just too expensive...$100-120m and 6 years isn't worth it.
As for the players you mentioned, Solomon:
- Manny won't take a small deal, unless you mean short...probably $25m/2 years or thereabouts.
- The usual suspects have the best chance of signing Davish, because they'll be offering boatloads of cash. Probably talking $100m there as well.
- Bedard might sign for a one-year deal with several million in incentives to try and play for a bigger contract in 2012.
- Beltre and Martinez are Type-A free agents who are going to make serious bank, very likely more than they're worth. Unless Theo goes on a bender and misses the arbitration deadline, we shouldn't be going after them.

Re: Should the Jays pursue Crawford?
I've always liked Crawford, but it would be a terrible move for the Jays, and IMO it's going to be a deal with a huge chance of massive regret attached for whichever club picks him up. His pure value add is speed and he's already almost 30 and logged a ton of time. I could just imagine what would happen to Jays fans to finally be escaping the Vdub contract only to have the last 2-3 years of a broken down Crawford deal extend the nightmare.
I don't hate the risk if you're the Sox or Angels. It's worth the long-term risk to really improve your team in the short-term (not sure it does with the Sox really, depending on what they could net for other assets), but the Jays (as Wells proves) really suffer under the weight of a single undeserved premium contract for any period of time and I don't see Crawford as nearly a safe enough bet 5-6 years down the road to make him a remotely viable FA target for this franchise. I also don't think the budget has 15m+ in it for a LF now anyway, so the whole thing is just us spinning our wheels, but I have a big vote for no thank you right here, even though I think Crawford's a damn fine ballplayer.
