Lyle Overbay a Pirate

Post#1 » by dagger » Tue Dec 14, 2010 6:26 pm

That's a Pirate, not a pirate as in one who steals money from rich owner...

It's a one year deal, says Morosi, but no $$$ disclosed yet.

Good grab by the Pirates, although Pittsburgh is a pretty spacious ballpark is giving Overbay an everyday gig. Good on Overbay who's always been professional even when he stunk.

An absolute pooch ... I'm thrilled that we don't have to suffer through another season of this moron. I hope he gets razzed hard if he comes back to the SkyDome, I'll try to get seats behind first and do my part. He didn't play hard, his struggles at the plate didn't seem to weigh heavily on him, just a team killer.

I wish him well as a person, seemed like a good dude, I'd probably let him watch my kids, but if your objective is to win MLB ball games, you don't need a nanny rather you need a guy that can mash the crap out of pitched baseballs.

I'm not going to miss Lyle Overbay. Great defense, but an AL East 1B with a sub-.800 OPS is not my cup of tea.

To put in perspective how bad the Jays had it with Lyle at first.....

From 2007-2010 (according to BBRef)
Overbay: 2210 PA, .255/.344/.427 (.771 OPS), 61 HR, 105 OPS+
E.Hinske: 1194 PA, .241/.334/.444 (.778 OPS), 45 HR, 104 OPS+

Let's get a 1B who actually hits like a 1B.

I suspected as much.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

well obviously cause we won't be able to bastardize his name every time he f's it up anymore. The entertainment derived from reading series threads just dropped down a notch.

When I think of the Pirates, I think of MLB purgatory. I wonder if that's how fans around the league think of Toronto.

Not really going to miss him but he was a decent player. He played great defense at 1B, but he can't hit left handed pitching to save his life.
