CarGo isn't a homegrown player for the Rockies. He was signed by Arizona, then traded to Oakland in the Haren deal, then to Colorado in the Holliday deal. Two major trades and yet he was a relative throw-in in both. I picked him in the 10th round and got #1 fantasy player value last year so CarGo is the man. The Rockies were definitely right to lock him up, but they probably did a year too early. His .384 BABIP was insanely high which masked the fact that his plate discipline is well below avg. His OBP is tied very closely to his AVG. He has been steadily getting less strikes thrown to him while also swinging more, which is not a good combo. He actually gets more fastballs thrown to him AWAY from Coors, the reason for which is explained nicely here:
http://www.athleticsnation.com/2010/8/8 ... a-mountain. He will still be worth his contract considering that he was worth $24m last year alone. Even as his BABIP settles into a .330-.340 range, he should put up at least .300/.340/.550 because he of his line drive swing and power.
