Re: Escobar signs extension
We avoid arbitration with this deal where he could have potentially earned more than $5 mil per. Good deal.

Re: Escobar signs extension
That's an incredible bargain, in the "Yunel should fire his agent" realm. We just bought out two years of free agency for $10m worth of options...that's absurd.

**** your asterisk.

This is great. Even if he has to move to 2B, it'll still be a huge bargain.

o.O
...and any concerns that were cropping up about how AA handled this or that or whatever kind of go away for a while.
Another great move.

Gregg Zaun apparently hates this deal. his rationale is so **** stupid that i won't even get into it. Aren't some of you big Gregg Zaun fans? I've been saying this for a while, he's a category 5 moron, he reminds of Sarah Palin and her fans, she's popular with her supporters because she seems to be saying things nobody wants to say in a folksy manner but in reality she's just **** crazy that has no clue what's coming out of her mouth. That's what Gregg Zaun is.

Do you have a link to what he said? Some of his opinions seem pretty stupid like when he said wins are the most important stat for determining how good a pitcher is.

I never listen to a guy who wears the type of shirts Zaun wears.

Re: Escobar signs extension
I can't believe that Zaun thought this was a reach and overpayment for Escobar. The guy is a upper tier defensive SS who can also hit for a good average and give you some pop as well. If he ever goes back to his 20+ HR level then it's just golden. I like the signing here for our team gives Jose another reason want to retire here and a solid 1 or 2 hitter as well. If we could add a good lower lineup bat or reach for one of the big FA's man this time could surprise a lot of people next year

Re: Escobar signs extension
What a great deal. A very good two way shortstop locked up at a below market rate.
On a slightly side note, I wonder if it is a coincidence or not that he was re-signed right before we play his former club. Almost as a reminder to Atlanta at just how shortsighted they were with this deal. It's also a frank reminder not to give up on young players so quickly. Young players are bound to struggle at times. The key is determining who has the long term history in producing through the ranks, and avoid short term blips in performance.

Re: Escobar signs extension
I'll echo the sentiment of this board that this is a very good deal for the Blue Jays. Actually, based on just how good a deal it is for the team, I think this might be one of those rare cases where an athlete (in another sport than hockey) actually gave the team a discount because he actually likes his situation. If it is, then I give a lot of credit to escobar because that's a pretty ballsy thing to do (potentially leave a few million on the table in order to be happy).
