Gose can throw 94mph

Post#1 » by youngLion » Wed Jun 22, 2011 11:12 pm

Just learned this from Keith Law in the most recent Getting Blanked podcast. Law isn't particularly high on Gose because of his lack of hitting, but noted that he saw him throw 94 with an "ugly delivery". Obviously nobody's going to start campaigning for him to be converted into a starter tomorrow or anything, but I thought this was an interesting note on the guy's skill set.

Many expected Gose to be a pitcher in the pros, owing to his poor hitting. Still isn't a bad fallback if the bat doesn't work out, though it sounds like his mechanics on the mound aren't any better than his mechanics in the batter's box.

Yeah in terms of a backup plan turning the guy into a hard throwing lefty reliever isn't a bad option; Law suggests that worst case scenario you turn him into a pitcher and let him throw 'until his arm falls off'.

I'm not really expecting it to happen, but hopefully he can learn to hit a little bit and stay at CF.

It's amazing how, for a coveted top prospect, he might not even learn how to "hit a little bit". You'd think that would be a pretty important factor in setting you apart from the rest of the speedy outfielders in the minors.
