ehh....Rasmus gives you something this year, then that's great.
give him the offseason to cool his jets, talk to the Jays' hitting coach, re-discover his swing and make your judgement next season.
this year's a write-off

Pretty much. If our hitting coaches can do half for Rasmus what they did for Bautista, we're laughing our way to the post-season.

Nice...AA has been getting a lot of respect.

Also this comment stood out at the end of the article.

GSJays wrote:The thing that is really impressive about Alex and imo, one of the reasons he's so good, is his humility..In the trades he's done, he could get on a soapbox like a previous GM we had, bang his chest and tell us all how good he is.
However, that isn't what he does, because he's smart enough to know if he does that , he shows up the other GM and probably won't be able to deal with him again...So instead, he compliments the GM and continually positions himself as the young guy learning from the pros-meaning the GM he just squeezed to do the deal...lol

I'm sure that humility helps him find out exactly what the other GM needs better than any other GM who calls. Of course, Alex already knows what the GM needs because of the massive scouting department consistently feeding him information..In some cases it wouldn't surprise me if he knew what the GM needed more than the GM does..lol

It's hard to decide which trade he's done that's the est cause they're all so good, but I do think getting LA to pick up the roughly 100 mill owed to Vernon will probably go down as the one which helped the team the most.

i do notice his humility in his interviews. He's always hoping that the players going out do well, and that he doesn't want to see lop-sided trades.

Trade Deadline Power Rankings: Part 2, the Victors

............

2. Toronto Blue Jays

The Internet has already written hundreds of love songs in Alex Anthopoulos' honour,2 and rightfully so. The Jays GM turned a decent prospect, an outfield utility man, two relief pitchers, and a low-upside swingman into a 24-year-old center fielder brimming with talent who's three-plus years from free agency and needed a fresh start more than a chained-up Todd Marinovich. Unlike other trade deadline sellers, the Jays aren't far from fielding a winning team either. Next year's Jays team will likely include Jose Bautista in right, Rasmus in center, Travis Snider in left, top prospect Brett Lawrie at third, Adam Lind at first base or DH, power-hitting J.P. Arencibia at catcher, and the highly underrated Yunel Escobar at short, with Ricky Romero, Brandon Morrow, and Brett Cecil fronting the rotation and plenty of cash at Alex Anthopoulos' disposal to make further upgrades. If Major League Baseball follows through on its desire to add another wild-card team next year, do you really want to bet against the Jays playing into October?

2. Dump 81 million dollars' worth of Vernon Wells, sign Jose Bautista to a massive bargain of a contract, turn an aging Alex Gonzalez into Yunel Escobar in his prime, sign Escobar and other young, core players to more affordable deals, then pull off the Rasmus heist, and you've earned the Canadian "u" in honour, monsieur.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

^^

Curious that they labeled us 'sellers'. Trading prospects for a major-leaguer seems more like a buy.

We gave up experienced pitching on both ends of the deal, along with Stewart. And received back a 24-year-old in a season long slump. We were sellers.

It just doesn't seem like it, because we didn't give up a lot. But that's the beauty of the deal (subject to the players to be named later).

It'll really be interesting to see which 3 players to be named later St. Louis will receive in return. Anyone have any clue which 3 players could be headed back to St. Louis by the end of the year? For some reason, I think Justin Jackson might be one of the 3 St. Louis decides to take. I highly doubt St. Louis opts for the cash route.
Want: Trae Young, Michael Porter Jr., DeAndre Ayton, Jaren Jackson Jr, Marvin Bagley III, Mohamad Bamba, Shai Gilgeous- Alexander, Elie Okobo, Jevon Carter

It's highly unlikely that they are players worth worrying about considering the cash option.

How much cash could it realistically be?

If it is "PTBNL or cash", usually the players involved are not that highly thought of, otherwise the team would simply take the players/prospects without there being a cash option. I mean, if the Cardinals were offered Henderson Alvarez or $850,000 in cash, they wouldn't even think about. But Kevin Ahrens or cash, and they might just pocket some savings rather than take the prospect.

I disagree that we were sellers.

If you look at it as a three team trade, us and STL were buyers while the CWS were seller.

If you look at the trades individually, we were clearly the buyers in the trade with the CWS. And then the trade with STL was an established player for an established player, trading need for need (so it's neither a buy nor a sell move).
