Isn't it funny that they are thinking of a 1 game playoff game next year, but it could start this year.

Red sox/Rays, and Cardinals/Braves could possibly be tied at the end of tommorow. Though it won't count as a real playoff game, we'll possibly start it 1 year.

Anyone else think the MLB should change the playoff format when it comes to matchups?

Every year its been 1 vs 3/WC and 2 vs 3/WC.

I think the MLB should chane it:
You all 4 teams by record, then it's 1vs4 and 2vs3 regardless of 1 and 4 being in the same division.

This year in the Nl the standing is like this:
1- Philly
2- Brewers
3- Diamondbacks
WC- Braves/Cardinals

Regardless of who wins the WC, I think the Phillies should face them, because they will have the worst record of the 4 teams. It shouldn't matter if they are in the same division or not.

Last year, for the AL, it was properly done because thE Yankees and Rays had the 2 best records, and shouldn't have faced each other in the ALDS.

Is there any chance they would consider having the #1 and #4 teams (record wise) face off, even if they are from the sale division.

After last night's finish, is there a chance that MLB says "nah, this is fine the way it is"? After such a come from ahead loss to the ... wait for it ... Baltimore Orioles, does Simmons think his Sox deserve to be in a one or three game playoff?

I'm not really a purist, and I want the best for the Jays, but the concept of the epic collapse has a long and storied place in baseball lore. Why reward/bail out such loser teams with a short series where anything can happen?

Doesn't make the epic collapses and tight races less likely, just shifts where you would see them. In 2010, the White Sox and Red Sox would've been neck-and-neck for the spot until early September, when Chicago reeled off eight consecutive losses to end up trailing badly with a series between the two teams upcoming. The Red Sox entered the four-game series at 86-69; the White Sox were at 83-72, three games behind, seven games to play. The White Sox took three in that series, cutting the gap to one. The Red Sox had a three-game series against the Yankees to end the year thereafter, with Chicago playing struggling Cleveland. With the extra Wild Card, there would have been quite a bit of drama surrounding the CHW-BOS series and the NYY-BOS and CHW-CLE series to follow, but as it stood, they were meaningless and thus received no attention.

There will still be epic collapses. Just like currently they can epic collapse out of the wildcard (while 20 years ago, you could only epic collapse out of the pennant) soon the epic collapses will be out of the 2nd WC.
