Hahahaha

Yanks and Sox won't go after Pujols or Fielder. Sox have Gonzalez and Yanks have Tex already. Gonzo and Tex wouldn't be happy to play DH in their prime and of course Fielder or Pujols wouldn't sign to be a DH themselves.

Yeah I don't see how those above 4 mentioned would ever agree to DH. The teams with deep pockets will pay for them outside New York and Boston. I think New York is going to go after some pitching help. I think it might be fair to say that Pappledouche might be in Yankee pinstripes since Rivera is getting up there in age.

I really like the Andre Either suggestion the guy is a really good hitter for average and has some power 20-30 HR. I really hope we get Darvish and bring Marco back to help out at 2nd base

Voted for Wandy and Yonder, 'cause I'm a sucker for a good first name and I like being by myself. :D

Someone mentioned Mike Adams...

He may have been the best relief pitcher in baseball over the last few years so it might make financial sense to target him for the back end of our bullpen since he won't command top closer money. Just a thought...

I'm going to be greedy and say Fielder and Votto. Who cares that they're redundant? That's why they invented the DH. I'm a dreamer.

Here is a name no one has mentioned yet that I think may not be to bad if we dont sign Fielder. Carlos Pena, he can DH to start and if Lind continues to suck he can move to 1B and have Lind/E5 DH. Sign him to a 1+1 at around 10 mil he could be a good one year stop gap. He put up a 2.2 WAR last year, at 5 mil a win signing him to a 10 mil deal is still getting good value, and if he leaves after the year you get a pick. Then you are ether set with Lind, going with a young guy like McDade, or try to trade for Votto at a much lower cost.

Lind doesn't even deserve to be part of a platoon, i thought him and E5 would be okay at DH but Lind's numbers against righties are pretty shaky too. Pena is also developing significant platoon problems, but i'd still like to get him and platoon him with E5 at 1B. Lind should just be traded for a reliever or any team that is willing to pick up his salary.

There's another name no one has talked about that could be somewhat ideal at DH, Carlos Quentin. He's in his final arbitration year, the White Sox are looking to move their older players to open up their outfield and DH spots for younger players. Quentin should be good for a 2 WAR at DH and he's not gonna cost us too much, maybe a B prospect and some cash.

Quentin and Pena could be part of a cheap plan to build a 1 year playoff contender. Its gonna require Rogers to take a big hit for one year in exchange for not having to take on a potential albatross contracts that could come with Fielder or CJ Wilson.

Sign Pena for one year 10 million, team option of 12 million, 2 million buyout.
Trade for Quentin:(estimated salary 7-9 million )
Sign Darvish(one time posting fee investment: 40 million. Annual contract at 10 million per year)
Resign Kelly Johnson annual salary of 10-13 million.

A lineup of

Escobar
Rasmus
Bautista
Quentin
Lawrie
Pena/E5
Johnson
Thames/Snider
Arencibia/d'Arnaud

and a rotation of
Darvish
Morrow
Romero
Alvarez
Cecil/Molina/Hutchison/McGowan/Villaneveva

shoud be good enough to play meaningful baseball in August and September.

Would it really cost that much to re-sign Johnson? That seems like way too much.

Yeah I agree $13 million is too much for him. Love the rest of the idea though if Toronto pulled that off I could see us easily fighting for second in the AL East depending on if the Yankees keep C.C. or not

it might be a little high, i really like KJ so that could be influencing things but the 2B market is really weak. There's lot of teams with holes at 2B and other than Johnson, Aaron Hill is the only guy that could potentially be a startign quality second baseman. His annual salary is also obviously gonna depend on how many years we're willing to give him

Matt Klaassen of fangraphs reviewed 2B free agents and the options are terrible besides Johnson

Yeah I agree, 100% I mean like you said Johnson and Hill are the only 2 good ones out there that could help us. Johnson should easily get in the $8-$10 million range over 2-3 years with a team option for a 3rd or 4th year. My ideal situation would be Darvish #1 as the guy I really want in Toronto then sign pieces to help bolster the team like how you explained in your post. The only other good one outside Aaron Hill and Johnson I think is Marco Scutaro I could be wrong

I wonder in a hypothetical world if we did sign Jose Reyes could Yunel Escobar move over to 2nd base full time?
