Cathal Kelly seems to agree with me - the statement today was nebulous. It basically said Farrell ain't going for free.

Any compensation the Cubs shell out is worth it if you think about it.

I would not consider Epstein a top front office guy. His record would be a lot better with that payroll if he was better than average.

Its not just the money... you gotta know how to spend that money wisely

Gord Ash had the 3rd highest payroll in the MLB for years with the Toronto Blue Jays just before JP was hired. Yet the JAYS were garbage.

Ill agree though, Theo Epstein had huge advantage over other GMs for sure. He could sign anyone he wanted, trade any prospect he wished or even make the odd mistake without it being a team killing deal..... However, in Chicago he will have all the cash he had in Boston, so Cubs probably arent too worried about him in that regard.
