I agree with you from a fan standpoint. From an investment-revenue generating standpoint I tihnk Rogers could potentially rather have Darvish no?

He's a lower risk investment. You know what you're getting with CC & it sends a message & it instantly knocks NYY down a peg (who'll be their ace if they don't get CJ? Nova?).

I'd rather overpay for CC and sacrifice whatever Darvish's ceiling is and whatever revenue he'll attract because any move that makes your team much stronger right away AND hurts one of your biggest rivals is perfect.

Hell, if Ellsbury were an FA I'd say give him 30M.

I fully understand how a CC move would be better for us from a winning standpoint, and a making our competioion worse standpoint. What I was getting at was that Randle said he was a better "investment". I'm just saying from Rogers' (who wants to make money) perspective, they might see Darvish as the better "investment" if he is more likely to give a good rate of return cash-wise.

Over the last 6 years he's posted a WAR among pitchers at 5th, 1st, 5th, 9th, 5th, 2nd. That's pretty great consistancy in the top 5. He's consistantly very very good. He's behind the guys like Halladay who are consistantly great, but there are very few of those guys. Other guys like Grienke might have the odd year where they are great/better then CC, but over a period of time they arn't as consistant/good.

Plus it's a good market to be a starting pitcher right now. There isn't much supply of FA SP's, but there's always a big demand so they are gonna attract some coin right now.

Basically a top 5 ace is gonna get paid in this market. Maybe not a ton more then his current contract, but still if there's money to be had he might as well get it.

Seems like a pipe dream scenario like something we would do in MLB 2K12 or the Show. I doubt that Pujols or CC sign here first. The Cards shown they have a good team and were one hell of a tight knit group and played as a team and yada, yada, yada but I don't see Albert leaving the Cards to risk it here. Yeah we would be a power house team if we sign Darvish and CC but like I said it's very unlikely we are not the NY Yankees, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox or Anaheim Angels with their payrolls, The Yankees (thanks in part to YES) have the budget make that happen but Albert wouldn't sign there to be a DH and he's too good to be one anyways.

I think the more realistic scenario is Toronto signs hopefully one of Fielder or Ortiz to be the DH here and signs a good pitcher hopefully Darvish, Wilson or a slim chance at CC and see if we could make that trade for Votto and have one hell of a nice rebuilt team
