Kelly Johnson officially type A free agent

Great news for the Jays. Win-win situation. Increases the odds of us resigning him and if not, we get 2 picks. Also of note, Francisco, Rauch, Camp, Molina are type B. Do we offer arb to Rauch and/or Camp?

Good news. Hopefully, AA can use that as a leverage to sign Johnson to a cheap multiyear deal.

I would guess that we offer Camp arbitration but not Rauch.

I would offer FF, Camp, and Molina arbitration. Rauch can GTFO.

That's hilarious. Once KJ attained an .800 OPS late in the season, he realized he was blowing it and stopped hitting (ending at .781). But he didn't quit soon enough.

Good opportunity to resign him on the cheap. Assuming Hech comes up in July, Johnson (or Escobar) should be valuable trading chips at that point.

I expect the Jays to give him a 3 year deal before the end of the week. He's the best 2B on the market and we don't want to go backwards this offseason even for the draft picks. The draft picks are strictly a fallback option for us at this point.

Definitely good news for the Jays. Johnson is far less attractive attached to Type A status and even if a team does like him enough to sign him away, that means the Jays are getting an extra 1st or 2nd round pick. However, I'd rather have Johnson signed up to play 2B next season so I hope AA can work out a deal with him, and I am confident that he can.

Why are people so eager to trade Escobar on this board? He's a phenomenal hitter for us.. he's great defensively.. this is the type of SS we've been waiting on for years and he's very productive at his position.. he seems like one of those born for playoffs type that will really excel on the big stage.. comes through with a lot of big hits etc.. I would definitely look to keep a more seasoned hitter like him right now who's still growing into his prime as a hitter than worry about hechavarria at this point..

+1

The only place I'd move Escobar to is second. I don't want to see him going to anywhere else though. He should be our lead off or #2 hitter for at least the next 4-5 years.

Jays cant afford to let Frank Francisco go for just Type-B level compensation...... he was clearly a Type-A level the second half of the season.

I expect him to be resigned automatically and be in the running for a key bullpen job if not closer.

I would love to do this. Franky proved he can pitch.
