Again, I hope this doesn't get construed as moaning. I myself wouldn't have been terribly pissed if the Jays signed him, but they didn't, so at least he's out of the AL East.

As for the Phillies it might seem crazy to call them misguided after all the success they've had but sooner or later these bad moves will add up and having Lee and Halladay is not gonna mean anything when you have like 50 million in dead weight on your payroll every year.

This isnt basketball where a few bad signings can put you in a bind. If the Jays waste money, they can just spend more to correct it. They Jays need to spend to prove to a overly patient fan base that they are real competitors and not just hoping for all the stars to align. At least they need to if they want my $$ for season tickets.

AA has a budget to work with, they just don't say spend whatever you want. I'd much rather invest in a big bat than a closer anyway.

So if the option vests which it should that is costing the Philies $57142.86 per out if he pitches 70 innings (career high is 69.1). By comparison Rickey Romero (200 IP) $11833.33 per out, I love AA.

Yeah, I would agree with that, 5 years it's too long for the $60 million it was going to cost to sign him. I don't see why he would have signed with us over Philly, Philly is a elite team were a good team so if I am Papelbon I take my chances with Philly unless Toronto is overpaying by 10's of millions over the life of the contract.

I am glad we passed on him Nathan and Broxton are better cheaper safer bets plus saves us some extra money we could convince The Rogers Family to use else where on Papi, Fielder, Reyes i.e. one of the bigger fish

Word is that there may also be a vesting option to push the deal over 60 million.

If I were the Phillies, I'd be more concerned with extending Hamels contract and finding a SS. They better have more money to spend.

If they don't....... jays r more than willing to take Hamels off their hands.
