Romero fits into that gray area though. I'd seriously hesitate to call him an ace too, but he'd be the #1 on so many teams it's pretty hard not to attach that label in some form. There are probably about 10 guys that you'd slot into definitive ace category and Romero has to be at or near the top of the guys that fit in after.Off the cuff, Halladay, Verlander, Kershaw, Sabathia, Lester, Hernandez, Lee, Weaver, and Lincecum are probably aces on most lists. Johnson, Carpenter, and Wainwright deserve some consideration except for health issues. Romero is in the next list somewhere with Haren, Santana, Shields, Price, Hamels, Cain, Wilson, and at least 10 other guys I've left out. He's probably closer to 20-25 on some lists of SP, but it'd be hard to drop him much lower than that IMO and he's in a tier that probably takes you to around 30+ starters.

Kelly seems to think that AA has no interest in Fielder.

I have a lot of respect for AA but sometimes he reminds me of a tight poker player who has what it takes to outlast some of the idiots but might not take the necessary risks or gambles in order to win the whole thing.

He traded our best pitcher for Lawrie once upon a time.

The local guys are unanimous on that, particularly the Rogers employees, so it seems the Jays really won't pursue him. I would hope there's still a power-hitting 1B they're targeting but AA's quotes about Adam Lind yesterday lead me to believe it'll be the status quo at first next year.

http://gregorchisholm.mlblogs.com/2011/ ... g-edition/

Regarding Lind’s offseason conditioning program and reflecting on his 2011 season…

“He talked about how he just wore down. Obviously he got hurt, his back, his wrist … He had never really played a full season at one position and he worked so hard in Spring Training, ground balls, played almost every game at first. He hadn’t played a full-time position in six years or more, he was
not accustomed to that and I think he really felt the toll in the second half and he wore down.

“I think he now knows how to prepare for a whole season at the position. He knows to back off from his work in Spring Training … I think Adam now knows to pace himself with the body to prepare himself for that position. It’s going to allow him to stay fresh from start to finish”

Back to the Fielder talks....if you were Joey Bats, wouldn't you be calling Prince and putting on the Booster Juice charm telling him to come to Toronto?

jcrasnick Jerry Crasnick
#BlueJays are a major long shot for Prince Fielder unless he's willing to take a shorter-term deal with a higher AAV.

Yes. And wouldn't you also be going to AA and Paul Beeston about this? It's rather ridiculous they're not willing to go beyond 5 years for a 27 year old superstar.

Well to be fair, by the sounds of it, neither are the Cubs, Brewers and the Jays. The Mariners seem to be the only team willing based on this tweet from Jim Bowden:

Mariners are now front=runners on Fielder with Milw,Cubs & Tor all wanting shorter term deals....stay tuned

Well the Brewers are a small market team who are paying Ryan Braun through 2056, and the Cubs simply aren't very good at the moment.

Return to Toronto Blue Jays
